Black Man Killed by Campus Police

An 18-year old student at the University of Cincinnati was killed this weekend after being stunned by a police taser. Everette Howard, a student in a summer program preparing him for college, died after the attack. Friends say that Howard was trying to break up a fight in front of a dorm when campus police arrived on the scene.

GA Pastor Arrested on Child Sex Charges

A pastor is being held this week without bond in the Clayton County jail on accusations that he molested and solicited sodomy from a child. Samuel Walsham Chapman, a 58-year old man out of Decatur, GA, was arrested last week and charged with molestation, solicitation of sodomy and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Tired of Waiting, The Congressional Black Caucus Announces a New Jobs Initiative

Men and women across the country have been frustrated for years about the lack of jobs and the dire state of the economy. Now, the Congressional Black Caucus is taking active steps in an effort to increase the number of employed citizens. August 8th, Members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) along with host Member Congresswoman Marcia Fudge will be kicking off the CBC’s “For the People” Jobs Initiative. This event is starting off in Cleveland, Ohio, and it will be comprised of a job fair and town hall meeting at Cleveland State University. According to a press release provided to Your Black World by Stephanie L. Young of the White House Office of Communications:

Man Admits to Having Sex with a Cat, then Tossing It Out the Window

An Iowa man faces several charges after he threw a cat from a seventh story window with his pants down. Police were called when neighbors said that the man had exposed himself and threw the cat from the window. Police found the cat, who later died from his injuries.

Pat Buchanan Needs to Take the Word “Boy” Out of His Vocabulary

Pat Buchanan, one of the most divisive political constructs of this century, made an interesting comment about President Barack Obama. In a recent interview with Rev. Al Sharpton, Buchanan referred to President Obama as Sharpton’s “boy.”

The remark led to Sharpton responding with the kind of ferocity that the situation demanded, telling Buchanan that he needs to respect Barack Obama as his president and everyone’s president. Buchanan initially refused to issue an apology, but eventually took the time to “clarify his remarks.”

MSNBC commentator Pat Buchanan refused to apologize for calling President Obama a “boy” on national television. Speaking to Rev. Al Sharpton on the network, Buchanan referred to President Obama as “your boy” to Rev. Sharpton, sparking an on-air fight that went viral on the Internet.

Dr. Boyce: The Student Who Sued Her School Over “Wigger Day”

A high school in Minneapolis may end up having to pay up after allowing its students to openly engage in a tradition called "Wigger Day." On this "sacred" occasion, the students in the school would wear clothing and engage in behavior that "from their perspective, mimicked black culture." This was all according to a federal class action lawsuit filed on Friday.

The suit claims that a group of roughly 60 students voted to have "Wigger Wednesday," where students would dress up as African Americans from "the hood." The outfits included oversized sports jerseys, fitted hats and "doo" rags. Some of them even threw up gang signs to celebrate the occasion.

Senate to Vote on Debt Ceiling Compromise on Tuesday

The ball is finally rolling with the debt-deal debate. On Sunday, President Obama reached an agreement with the Democrats and Republicans of Congress. The deal entails $2.4 trillion be saved over the next ten years while also raising the debt ceiling through 2012. The deal also calls for a special congressional committee designated just for recommending long-term fiscal reforms.

It is probably safe to say that Malikah Shabazz is not upholding the image of her father, Malcolm X. At the age of 46, X’s youngest daughter has been sentenced to 5 years of probation for stealing $55,000 from an elderly woman by charging on credit cards in the woman’s name. Shabazz is required by the courts to pay off the debt in full. If she fails to do so, she could get up to 7 years behind bars.NYDailyNews.comreports:

UN and Other Groups Meet to Solve Somalia Famine Problem

According to reports from CNN, “the World Bank has pledged more than $500 million for famine victims in Somalia as the United Nations met in emergency session Monday to address the aid response in Somalia, the hardest-hit nation in the region.” Robert B. Zoellick, the World Bank President, released a public statement saying, “Immediate relief and recovery is the first priority, and it is important to act fast to reduce human suffering.” The UN reports that over 12 million people are suffering from the famine, and that includes two regions of Somalia.

Man Arrested for Being a Burglar in His Own Home

Marco Sauceda, 30, was convicted of resisting arrest in his own home after police mistook him for a burglar. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine on Wednesday.
